Hands Off Kenosha Meeting Recap 3/7


Thank you to everyone who attended our meeting on Saturday. Below are the key updates and announcements.

Voter Registration in High Schools

Youth voter registration continues to be a priority. Currently, 42% of people ages 18–32 are not registered to vote.

Recent outreach:

  • Harborside Academy: 86 students reached

  • Indian Trail: visit scheduled Monday

  • Reuther: visit scheduled Thursday

  • Lake View: opted out

  • Bradford and Tremper: awaiting responses

Students have been very engaged and interested in civic participation.


St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Hands Off Kenosha will be participating in the Kenosha St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Watch Party

For those who would like to watch the parade, we will be having a watch party at:

Century Pub: 5511 6th Ave Kenosha, WI 53140

We will reserve a seating area outside on the curb.

For Those Walking in the Parade

Parade Start: Marina Gardens – 50th St & 7th Ave Parade End: Library Park

Staging Area

Simmons Island Park Boat Launch411 45th St Kenosha, WI 53140

The staging area runs from the boat launch up the hill south to 50th Street on Simmons Island.

Parking is available at the boat launch, but you must enter from the north on Kennedy Drive near the bandshell.

Guidelines

  • No protest signs

  • No negative messaging

  • Keep the atmosphere peaceful and positive

  • Wear green


No Kings 3

No Kings 3: We the People Will Win

Civic Center Park Saturday, March 28 12:00–3:00 PM

The event will include:

  • Democracy-themed visuals honoring movements from suffrage to today

  • Resistance singing

  • Speakers and community participation

  • A food drive supporting the Kenosha Welcome Center

  • Encouraged costuming tied to democracy and civil rights history

Media outreach includes Kenosha News, Gateway Radio, and TMJ4.


Singing Resistance Kenosha

A new community singing group is forming to bring music and positivity to rallies.

No musical experience required.

Upcoming Sessions

  • March 12: 6:30–8:00 PM – Northside Library

  • March 24: 6:20–7:45 PM – Northside Library

Participants may wear red resistance hats or scarves as an identifier.

CD1 Engagement (West of the I)

The West of the I working group is currently planning:

  • A CD1 candidate meet-and-greet west of the interstate

  • Exploring locations for a future candidate forum or roundtable

Hands Off Kenosha does not endorse candidates, but we support opportunities for the community to hear from them.

HOK Anniversary

April marks one year since the first Hands Off protest in Kenosha (April 5, 2025).

We plan to hold a social gathering sometime in April to celebrate our first year. More details coming soon.

Members are encouraged to submit comments through Rapid Action for Justice.


Organizational Updates

  • Hands Off Kenosha received a $2,000 Indivisible GROW Grant for a mobile outreach kit.

  • The organization now has 800+ members.

  • Volunteers are encouraged to step up and help with projects and committees.

  • If anyone is interested in a leadership position with HOK, please see Sheila.
